Does this treat mealy bug? Jo asked on 15 March 2024

Hey Jo,
Mealy Bugs are unfortunately not listed on the table for David Grays Systemic Bug Killer, but the active ingredient imidacloprid can treat that insect, I would be unsure what the mixing rate would be.

Just got it today and haven't used yet
Hopefully it will solve my problem with severely infected Hibiscus

Thanks for your message! The David Grays Systemic Bug Killer is effective against mealy bugs on Hibiscus. It works by being absorbed into the plant, targeting pests from within.

For best results, mix the product as directed, and apply it evenly to the soil around your Hibiscus. This will allow the plant to absorb the treatment and start targeting the mealy bugs. It should help control the infestation, but you may need to reapply as directed for severe cases.

Is this the same active ingredient as confidore tablets? I need something that will tackle white scale. We have a large 18 tree Lily Pilly hedge that has white scale. We have been managing it with the tablets but they are no longer on the market. Also, each tree is roughly 2.5m high. How many bottles is the recommended dosage for trees this large? Hey Shaun,
For David Grays Systemic Bug Killer, yes, it does have the same active, Imidacloprid. The next portion of your question is a little tricky to answer without knowing how you were applying the Confidor tablets previously.

I've reached out to our suppliers and they've given me the recommendation for 18 trees, one bottle of the Systemic Bug Killer should be sufficient to treat all of them, but this is based on the assumption that you were using one tablet per tree.

Unfortunately David Grays Systemic Bug Killer 250g is not registered for use and I could see anything in its documentation to suggest it would be an effective means to control Caterpillars.
Another product you could try in the David Grays range that is effective for Caterpillars would be the David Grays Gro Natural Derris Dust 500g

I used this on my daphnes in pots for mealy bug infestations for which I’ve tried just about every possible method including wiping individual leaves with isopropyl alcohol – seems to be working thus far!
