Biting Midge & Mosquito Barrier - 1 Litre

Biting Midge & Mosquito Barrier – 1 Litre by No Mosquitoes is a DIY product that the professionals have been using for years and is now finally available so you can control and remove the annoyance of Mosquitoes and Midges in your backyard so you don’t feel trapped inside.

A professional and easy to use solution for the control of mosquitoes and biting midge by forming a residual barrier in a range of urban and semi-rural situations, as specified on the label.

Key Features

  • Easy to use measure and pour bottle.
  • 1lt of concentrate will make 100lt of usable solution.
  • 100 Litres of the solution will cover approximately 1000m2 of porous surface area or 2000m2 of non-porous surface area.
  • Suitable for most types of outdoor situations.
  • Safe for use on ornamental plants, bushes, shrubs and hedges (will not burn or kill plants)
  • Effective for up to 6 weeks*with a thorough application of well-vegetated yard.
  • Safe for humans and pets to use the yard as normal after the re-entry period has passed.
  • Enjoy a mozzie free yard all summer long.

How to Use

This product works best in yards that contain plenty of vegetation such as hedges, trees, bushes and thick foliage which is able to be sprayed.

We call this harbourage area.

These are the places the mozzies and midgies like to hang out during the day out of the wind and & sun.

Vegetation isn’t the only shelter from sun and wind but it’s also a food source.

Mosquitoes and biting midge feed on leaves surfaces which provide them with a carbohydrate to fuel them in collecting blood to support their eggs.

No Mosquitoes – Biting Midge & Mosquito Barrier actually doesn’t repel mosquitoes or biting midge, it is in fact, a non-repellent insecticide which means you want the insect to land on the treated surface to be effective.

The product works by coating the surfaces on which mosquitoes and biting midge feed on which is the harbourage area.

When the insect comes into contact with the treated surface, it is quickly killed. This essentially turns all treated surfaces into 24 hours a day mozzie and biting midge zappers, intercepting them on way to you!

No Mosquitoes – Biting Midge and Mosquito Barrier mixes with water as the carrier solution and will not harm plants or grasses if applied as per label directions.

To Mix & Apply

Always follow the directions on the bottle and always wear suggested personal safety equipment.

When applying the treatment to vegetation, for best results, try to make sure you are covering both sides of the leaves.

The sprayer you use will depend on what you have on hand. A hand pump or knapsack type weed sprayer will usually do the job for small to medium-sized suburban yards.

For larger properties, a backpack mist blower or power sprayer might be more suitable to cover larger areas and amounts of vegetation.

The trick is to cover the surface to just before the point of runoff giving the solution the bast chance to stick and dry on the surface intended.

You can also use the mix to treat around building exteriors such as eaves, walls, fences, also garages, sheds, gazebos, under furniture and any other harbourage areas you can find.

The general rule is, the more vegetation you have around your property that is treated, the better the result will be.

Note: All protective equipment (PPE) listed on the label should be worn and complied with. The attached label and directions must be read in full prior to mixing and using this concentration.

Do Not mix stronger than the label states as this will have negative effects on the treatment and the environment.

Ingredients

This is a residual type of insecticide (Bifenthrin 100g/L) which means it will continue to kill pests that come in contact with it after it has been applied.

Guides

Precautions

Not for use with thermal foggers or ULV applications.

how to use No Mosquitoes Repellent

 Steps for an effective treatment:

Step One– Read thoroughly and always follow the APVMA approved label directions.

Step Two– Identify the areas you wish to protect e.g. Usable outdoor areas.

Step Three– Identify the harbourage areas which to treat.

Step Four– Treat all the harbourage areas that you have identified both in vegetation and around structures and let dry.

Professional Spray Tips:

  • Do not wash structures, water or cut back any vegetation within 1 week of the treatment. Pruning and heavy watering may affect the longevity of protection. If watering is needed, attempt to water at the base of the plant or tree.
  • If rain is predicted within 24 hours, do not treat it as this will affect the longevity and effectiveness of your treatment.
  • Only spray in calm conditions – Do not spray in windy conditions to avoid spray drift– Spray can be blown off target and can also be shaken off leaves of vegetation before it gets time to dry which may have a negative effect for your treatment.
  • Let your neighbours know you are spraying – chances are they have a biting insect issue too. If the neighbour treats and you treat around the same time, the zone of protection will be ultimately larger around your outdoor areas, making it even harder for mozzies and midgies to find you.
  • Avoid spraying open flowers.
  • Do not mix stronger than the label rate. Biting Midge and Mosquito Barrier is formulated to be a non-repellent insecticide, which means you want the insect to land on the treated surface. Applying at a stronger concentration is not recommended and will not result in more effective treatment.
  • Lastly – follow the label directions and you will enjoy your yard free from mosquitoes and some relief from Biting Midge.

What if it rains past the 24 hour drying period, do I need to reapply the product to my surrounding foliage? Richard asked on 4 December 2024

Hey Richard,
No, you would not need to reapply Biting Midge & Mosquito Barrier if it rains after the 24-hour drying period. Once the product has had adequate time to dry (approximately 12-24 hours), small amounts of rain should not impact the effectiveness of your treatment. The product dries within 10 minutes of application, forming a thin film of insecticide that adheres to surfaces. After this initial drying period, the treatment becomes rain-resistant and can remain effective for up to 4-6 weeks, depending on the intensity of mosquito and midge pressure.

However, it's important to note that while light rain won't affect the treatment, heavy downpours or storms may reduce its longevity. In such cases, you might need to monitor the effectiveness of the treatment and consider reapplication if you notice an increase in mosquito or midge activity before the expected 4-6 week protection period ends.

My dogs have been known to nibble on foliage. Is this product safe for them? Nic Tuhou asked on 24 August 2024

My dogs have been known to nibble on foliage. Is this product safe for them? ( Biting Midge )

Thank you for your question! We understand how important it is to ensure the safety of your pets. The Biting Midge & Mosquito Barrier is designed to be safe when used according to the instructions, but since your dogs like to nibble on foliage, we suggest the following precautions:

Application: Apply the product in areas where your dogs are less likely to nibble. If possible, keep them away from the treated foliage until it has completely dried. This drying period allows the product to be absorbed (bind to the plant) by the plants, reducing the risk of ingestion (ingesting wet chemical – Once dry the product is bound to the treated surface, so in the event that a pet does ingest a small amount of a treated leaf etc, it will pass through the animal without being absorbed into the bloodstream. Also cover or remove any pet water bowls or food from the area you are treating)
Safety First: While the product is generally safe, it's always best to be cautious. If your dogs have a tendency to chew on treated plants, consider applying the product in the evening or when your dogs are indoors, allowing it to dry overnight. This minimizes their exposure. (we also tell people to maybe just apply to vegetation where the dogs cant reach, eg 2ft off the ground and up as an extra precaution)
Monitor Your Pets: After applying the product, keep an eye on your dogs. If you notice any unusual behavior or signs of stomach upset, it's a good idea to consult your vet, just to be safe.

Your pets' well-being is our priority, so please feel free to reach out if you have any further concerns or need additional advice. We're here to help ensure a safe environment for your furry friends!

Is this spray safe for bees and butterflies? Evelyn asked on 29 February 2024

Hey Evelyn,
Biting Midge & Mosquito Barrier uses Bifenthrin as it's active ingredient. This will have an effect on most insects including bees and butterflies. To avoid harming any bees in your yard, you would need to take care not to spray on any open or blooming flowers that bees might forage on, as this is a residual contact spray, meaning the insect that touches the dried solution will be killed off. There's a short video on our listing from Adam at No Mosquitoes that goes over a lot of tips and tricks for avoiding this when spraying the product.

  1. Fantastic results! Our place (semi rural 1 acre) was a haven for mozzies with established tropical gardens and clumping grasses.. I was having to wear bug spray every day when working outside and couldn’t go out at sunset… our poor dog was getting hammered with bites too..
a day after spraying the mozzies were gone – thank you!!! 🙏

  4. The product is great and has certainly reduced the mosquitos which we have plenty of at the present. Delivery wise I was very disappointed as my parcel was left at our gate (we are on acreage) even though I requested to be dropped at our house safely. This may deter me ordering again.
