The ACTA-ATTRACTA unit inside the trap uses an inbuilt UV light to attract insects, a food source for toads. It also emits pre-loaded cane toad calls, which are particularly attractive to females and increase capture rates.
The ACTA-ATTRACTA technology uses specific calls to lure female toads, which is key to the Toadinator’s success. Research identified the features of male cane toad calls that attract females, and trials showed a tenfold increase in capture rates when calls were combined with light and sound. Removing female toads is important because it reduces the number of eggs laid, impacting future generations.
Assemble the Toadinator Cane Toad Trap Kit according to the provided instructions. Connect the ACTA-ATTRACTA to the solar panel and position the panel to receive sunlight. Place the ACTA-ATTRACTA inside the Toadinator cage.
Position the trap on level ground where toads are active, ensuring no vegetation obstructs the doors. Check the trap regularly, ideally daily, and dispose of captured toads humanely.
