Description

Pestrol Rodent Free

The Pestrol Rodent Free device offers an innovative approach to rodent management, utilizing advanced ultrasonic and electromagnetic technology to effectively deter rodent activity in walls, ceilings, and open spaces. This solution employs a dual-action approach:

  1. Ultrasonic waves: The device emits high-frequency sound waves that are inaudible to humans but highly disruptive to rodents. These waves create an uncomfortable environment for rats and mice, encouraging them to leave the protected area.
  2. Electromagnetic pulses: By sending electromagnetic signals through your home’s existing wiring, the Pestrol Rodent Free creates an inhospitable atmosphere for rodents throughout the entire structure. This technology penetrates walls and ceilings, reaching areas where rodents typically hide and nest.

The combination of ultrasonic and electromagnetic technologies provides comprehensive coverage, addressing rodent issues in hard-to-reach areas as well as open spaces. This non-invasive method offers an effective alternative to traditional pest control methods, without the use of harmful chemicals or traps.

How to Use

Installation Steps

  1. Choose the Right Location
  • Plug directly into a standard electrical socket
  • Select a central location in the room
  • Avoid placing behind furniture or curtains
  • Preferably near potential rodent entry points

Optimal Positioning

  • One unit covers approximately 120-150 square meters
  • For multi-level homes, install one unit per floor
  • Ensure clear line of sight across the room
  • Place in living areas, kitchen, garage, or basement

Recommended Usage

  • Leave plugged in continuously for best results
  • Allow 2-3 weeks for full pest deterrent effect
  • Observe reduced rodent activity over time

Tips on getting the best results

  1. Cover All Electrical Circuits: The electromagnetic technology only works through one electrical circuit. To prevent rodents from entering your home, install units on every circuit in your house.
  2. Optimal Placement for Ultrasonic Waves: Place the unit in open spaces with minimal obstructions. Ultrasonic waves don’t pass through solid objects or turn corners.
  3. Address Problem Areas: For issues in cabinets or enclosed spaces, use a portable ultrasonic device or a plug-in ultrasonic unit with larger coverage.
  4. Seasonal Adjustments: During winter or flooding, rodents may tolerate the deterrent to seek shelter. If this occurs, unplug the unit for a few days, then reconnect it. This change in environment can startle rodents and encourage them to leave.
  5. Proper Height: Install the unit approximately 0.2 meters from floor level for optimal ultrasonic wave distribution.
  6. Multiple Units: For larger homes or multi-story buildings, use one unit per floor or electrical circuit.
  7. Patience: Allow up to 3 weeks for full effectiveness against rodents. Cockroach control may take longer due to dormant eggs.
  8. Pet Considerations: If you have pets sensitive to ultrasonic sounds, use the pet-friendly mode that disables ultrasonic while maintaining electromagnetic protection.

What is Electromagnetic Technology

Electromagnetic technology is a versatile and powerful approach that has found applications across numerous fields, including pest control. This innovative method harnesses the principles of electromagnetism to create solutions for various challenges, from medical imaging to rodent repellents.

In the field of pest control, electromagnetic rodent repellents utilize the existing electrical wiring in buildings to create an inhospitable environment for pests. These devices work by sending pulsing or shifting signals through the wiring, which are designed to irritate the nervous system of pests, disrupt their ability to gather food, breed, and build nests, and interfere with their communication. The signals are emitted at set intervals to prevent pests from developing a tolerance.

How Electromagnetic Rodent Repellents Work

Electromagnetic rodent repellents function by sending pulsing or shifting signals through the electrical wiring of a building. These signals are designed to:

  1. Irritate the nervous system of pests
  2. Disrupt their ability to gather food, breed, and build nests
  3. Interfere with their communication

The signals are emitted at set intervals to prevent pests from developing a tolerance.

Scientific Support

Several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of electromagnetic pest control:

  1. Professor Danthanarayana’s 2003 research at the University of New England found that electromagnetic pest control devices adversely affect rodents’ food and water consumption.
  2. A 2002 study by Genesis Laboratories in Colorado, USA, showed that electronic repellent devices can effectively repel certain pests in controlled environments. The study noted changes in feeding patterns when the signal location was altered, indicating that mice were aware of and responding to the signal.
  3. H. Shytel Glover’s 1997 cockroach test demonstrated that electromagnetic devices not only repel roaches but also have a residual effect for approximately 30 days after removal.

What is Electromagnetic Technology

Ultrasonic rodent control is a pest management technology that uses high-frequency sound waves to deter pests. Here’s how it works and what research says about its effectiveness:

How Ultrasonic Rodent Repellers Work

  1. Emit high-frequency sounds above human hearing range (typically 32-62 kHz)
  2. Use variable pulse generators to produce fluctuating sound waves
  3. Aim to disorient, startle, and frighten away rodents and cockroaches
  4. Some devices replicate dominant male rodent sounds to discourage others

Key Features of Ultrasonic Devices

  • Plugged into electrical outlets
  • Placed about 0.2 meters from floor level for optimal coverage
  • Require unobstructed areas as ultrasonic waves don’t pass through solid objects
  • Designed to cover specific areas (e.g., living rooms, hallways)

Scientific Studies on Effectiveness

Several studies have investigated the efficacy of ultrasonic pest repellers:

  1. Kansas State University review: Confirmed repellent effects and reduction in mating and reproduction for various insects.
  2. University of British Columbia study: Found that ultrasonic signal was as aversive to rats as a painful electric shock.
  3. Denver Wildlife Research Center study: Observed decreased food consumption in areas with ultrasound devices present.

My pestrol is about 10 years old Only the bottom red light is working Do I need to replace it? Cheryl asked on 24 March 2025

Hey Cheryl,
If you have a Pestrol Rodent Free which is 10 years old and the lights are starting to flicker off, it sounds as though the unit has come to the end and should be replaced with a new one, as it has an approximate 10 year life span.

My unit flashes with orange light for ‘Ultrasonic’ and red light for bottom ‘Electromagnetic’, as has done since brand new .. Does this mean it is working properly?? Darren asked on 10 March 2025

HI Darren, that seems fine. How long have you had the product for, generally if the lights stop working is the best way to know that the products time is up. If you are close by we can do a test with our specialized equipment.

How can I protect my cars wiring from being eaten by rats? I’ve moved to a rural property. Thanks in advance. Donna asked on 9 March 2025

Hi Donna

If you have cars parked in a garage, you could try any of our rodent ultrasonic deterrents: such as: https://www.pestrol.com.au/buy-online/pestrol-ultrasonic-rodent-repeller-pro/ If you are looking at specifically looking after the engine bay we have 2 options: https://www.pestrol.com.au/buy-online/vehicle-rodent-repeller/ and https://www.pestrol.com.au/buy-online/car-rat-repeller/ Finally if you are just making sure rodents aren't chewing on your seats etc internally in the car our popular battery operated units works really well: https://www.pestrol.com.au/buy-online/ultrasonic-pest-repeller-portable-battery-operated/

Can you use this in outdoor areas? Nikki asked on 8 March 2025

While people do use the Pestrol Rodent Free unit in semi-enclosed outdoor areas, we recommend being cautious and ensuring the unit is protected from the elements. To be safer in both indoor and outdoor spaces, we would prefer that you use a battery-operated deterrent. These units are better suited for outdoor exposure and provide a more reliable option in varying weather conditions. Consider the following: https://www.pestrol.com.au/buy-online/ultrasonic-pest-repeller-portable-battery-operated/

Putting ultrasonic apart, is one unit enough to produce electromagnetic pulses across the wiring of the whole home? Meovel asked on 4 March 2025

The Pestrol Rodent Free unit is designed to emit electromagnetic pulses through your home's wiring, which can help deter rodents from entering your space. Typically, one unit is effective for a standard-sized home, as it is capable of covering a significant area through the wiring system. However, the effectiveness can vary depending on the layout of your home, the type of wiring, and any obstructions. For larger homes or areas with complex wiring, additional units may be necessary to ensure full coverage.

  3. This product seems to work from my experience.
There are reviews out there that maintain that Ultrasonics are ineffective but I have bought 3 for 3 diffent enclosures and there has been no activity in them since the units were installed.
The latest one was placed in my mother’s double garage where there was evidence of entrails but since installing the Pestrol Rodent Free, the evidence of activity has ceased.
Can’t wish for better than that.
Thus my advice, buy one, try it and evaluate for yourself, for $119, it is worth a try.
