Organic Fruit Fly Trap - Cera Trap

The Organic Fruit Fly Trap – Cera Trap is an innovative, highly effective method to assist in the management of fruit fly. It contains a unique protein-based liquid solution that is very attractive to both female and male fruit fly.

The volatile compounds emitted by the trap are highly attractive to adult fruit flies with very little attractiveness to beneficial insects that may be in use. It doesn’t contain pheromones or insecticidal in its composition or in its mode of use.

Key Features

  • Designed to target the Queensland fruit fly and the Mediterranean fruit fly
  • Works on both genders, but targets females and breaks the breeding cycle
  • The smell of the liquid lures the fruit fly into a specially designed trap
  • The organic liquid does not contain any pesticides and will continue to work even when many flies have drowned in the liquid
  • Certified for use in organic farming CAAE and by ECOCERT as input eligible for organic agriculture in the European Union.

How to Use

Use before fruit flies start attacking the fruit. Organic Fruit Fly Trap – Cera Trap should be hung in trees when the fruit are small and still developing. Ideally, hang the traps when fruit reaches approximately one third its final size.

The traps should be hung on the northern side of the tree, at a height of approximately 1.5 metres and within the tree canopy. To reduce pest numbers it is essential to install the traps at least 45 days prior to fruit ripening.

Ingredients

  • Hydrolyzed protein

  • For maximum effectiveness, traps should be left in trees year-round and refilled as required.

FAQ

What makes the Cera Trap an environmentally friendly solution for fruit fly control?

The Cera Trap is a completely ecological solution, containing no insecticides, pheromones, or harmful chemicals. The trap uses a food-based attractant to lure and capture fruit flies, minimizing impact on beneficial insects and the surrounding environment. This makes it ideal for organic gardening and those concerned about the impact of traditional pesticides.

How do I know when and where to place the Cera Trap in my fruit trees?

Hang Cera Traps when your fruit reaches about one-third of its final size and at least 45 days before fruit ripening to get ahead of the fruit fly population. Place the traps on the northern side of the tree, approximately 1.5 meters high, within the tree canopy, ensuring even distribution throughout your garden, focusing on areas with high fruit fly activity. Proper placement will maximize the trap’s effectiveness and protect your fruit from damage.

Can Cera Traps effectively control a variety of fruit fly species, and what fruits are they most suitable for?

Yes, Cera Trap is effective against several fruit fly species, including the Queensland fruit fly and the Mediterranean fruit fly, providing broad-spectrum control. It is suitable for use in a wide range of fruits including citrus (oranges, lemons), stone fruits (peaches, apricots), and other fruits like apples, pears, and berries. By targeting multiple species and being versatile for different fruits, Cera Trap offers comprehensive protection for your entire orchard or garden.

Hey Helen,
When using Fruit Fly Traps such as the Organic Fruit Fly Trap - Cera Trap, the bait is more important than the trap, you should be able to use different more species targeted solutions with this trap

  2. Does the job. Not a great subject for postie delivery because bait lid seal isn’t all that secure, even with bubblewrap cushioning.
