Why do you need to get rid of rats/mice?
Rats pose a significant health risk to humans and our pets. Common diseases carried by rats include Salmonella, Weil’s disease, E.coli, Cryptosporidiosis and Tuberculosis.

How to create the first defence against rats and mice?
The first defence against a rat infestation is to proof your home. Young rats can get through holes of less than 1cm, so it is important to seal any holes and fit bristle strip around doors.
It is important not to attract rats with food – store food in a strong airtight plastic or metal containers and regularly clean under cookers and fridges.
In the garden, ensure household refuse is kept in closed bins, do not put meat into compost heaps and use squirrel-proof bird feeders, clearing up any food that is spilt. If you have pets in the garden, ensure food bowls are removed after feeding.
Rats can also come up from sewers through broken pipes – it is important to ensure that all pipe-work is kept in good order.

Hi Donna, This trap may work for 4-6 week old baby rats, but it's primarily designed for mice. The trap's dimensions (18.4 × 11 × 16.9 cm) might be suitable for very young rats, but it may not be ideal for larger juveniles or adults.
For trapping an entire mischief of rats with varying ages, this mouse trap alone may not be sufficient. You're correct that rat traps are often not sensitive enough for lightweight babies.
Using this mouse trap for the smaller rats and babies could be effective. Its ability to hold up to 8 mice at once could be useful for catching multiple young rats.

We have been using this type of mouse trap for years, as we have dogs and we don’t want to use poisons. Everyone is happy. The dogs love to tell us when there is a mouse in the trap, the mouse is not unhappy as he is taken to the park and released along with a supply of cheese and peanut butter and we are happy as it is a humane way of removing cute mice from the house.
A well manufactured product but to date, the bait is untouched and we haven’t caught anything. I am trying a new location to see how we go.
Caught 4 mice in two days, works well
I mean, this is a 5 out of 5 because it absolutely catches mice alive…. But like, then what? I didn’t think this through. I really didn’t want a cage full of wild live mice. But that was a “me” problem, not a product problem.
This one rocks, record so far is six in one catch, easy to either release or dispose.
