Frequently Asked Questions:
Why do I need a specialized fine-tooth comb to search for head lice?
Combing has been proven to be 4 times more effective than using your hands to look through the hair. It is important to get the best head lice to comb as the distance between the teeth and the quality of the comb are vital to successfully get rid of head lice.
Are you more at risk of getting head lice if you have dandruff or a dry scalp?
No. Head lice are indifferent to the cleanliness or general health of your hair/scalp. They only feed on your blood.
Can I get head lice from my pets?
Most animal species have a specific kind of lice they can contract that is different from human head lice. These specific lice cannot survive feeding off of any other species. Humans cannot contract animal lice and animals cannot contract human lice.
Do head lice cause itching?
Head lice do cause itching but that may not always be the case. For some people, head lice saliva may cause them to itch however, that does not happen for everyone. It is best to comb through the hair with a good lice comb to make sure.
I have found head lice in my child’s hair; how much cleaning and washing are needed in my house?
While it is good to have a clean home environment, head lice cannot usually survive once they’re out of someone’s head. once they’re out, they also cannot usually find their way back onto a head. Hence, any head lice that fall off the head is either dying or already dead and does not pose a threat.
