Yes, the Executioner Solar Bug Zapper is weather resistant and can be left outside in the rain.

You can detach the solar panel from the Executioner Solar Bug Zapper, however, the cable is not that long, depending on how far away you need to position the panel, it might not have the reach.
The unit comes with a charging cable, which can be plugged into a compatible wall adapter (5V1A or 5V2A). Disconnect the solar cable before connecting the unit to the charging cable. The unit will not charge and operate at the same time.

The Executioner Solar Bug Zapper would not be all that effective against midges, the grid would be too large, and the unit would sit too high off the ground for it to effectively control a midge infestation.
I would recommend a spray product like Biting Midge & Mosquito Killer to help control the midge population

First night in use at the camp compound in Lae, Papua New Guinea with 5 of 7 assembled and installed and in action and already a real “buzz” around camp, it’s like western magic to the local residents here and now the camp manager is already wanting more for bottom camp 5/5.
The sound of them being zapped is great as confirms yes this is a Defense system just like our compounds 10000V electric fence to keep us safe.
We will be buying plenty more of the Executioners not just for camp but the mine sites we operate in across PNG & the Solomon Islands.

I’ll add another review in 3 weeks to touch base on the results of these traps.
I love this solar bug zapper! It seems to attract & zap a lot more bugs than out smaller zappers, because it is so big. Great buy!
We live on acreage with a skeptic tank that is a breeding ground for mozzies. These had taken over our patio and prevented us from enjoying it.
Within days of installing this unit, the patio was cleared! We are now enjoying outdoor dining again.
