Is this suitable for protecting against olive lace bugs in an ornamental olive tree? I'm in SEQ and have a large olive tree with a severe infestation. Pyrethrum spray is not containing the bugs well enough... Hoping this will be a solution! Sam Pullos asked on 20 February 2025

Hey Sam,
David Grays Systemic Bug Killer is not specifically designed for olive lace bugs and may not be the most suitable solution for your ornamental olive tree infestation, While it is effective against some sucking insects like aphids, olive lace bugs aren't one of the listed species for this product.

Does the systemic bug killer work on cherry and pear slugs? JB asked on 5 February 2025

Hey JB,
David Grays Systemic Bug Killer is not specifically designed to target cherry and pear slugs. It is primarily effective against sucking insects like aphids and beetles by being absorbed into the plant through its root system.

Cherry and pear slugs, which are actually larvae of the Black Sawfly (Caliroa cerasi), are best controlled using methods that cause desiccation, such as dusting with wood ash, talcum powder, chalk, or lime.

Therefore, David Grays Systemic Bug Killer would not be the most effective choice for controlling cherry and pear slugs.

Does this product stop spidermites and aphids Annette asked on 24 December 2024

Hi Annette, David Grays Systemic Bug Killer 250g is effective against aphids, as it contains imidacloprid, a systemic insecticide that protects plants by being absorbed through the roots. However, it is not specifically registered for use against spider mites. While imidacloprid may provide some control over certain pests, it is not the best choice for spider mite infestations.

From what ive read this product is effective on Thrips? Rick asked on 18 December 2024

Hey Rick,
David Grays Systemic Bug Killer contains imidacloprid, a systemic insecticide effective against various sucking insects. While imidacloprid can control certain thrips species, its efficacy varies. Research indicates that imidacloprid may be less effective against flower- and pollen-feeding thrips, such as the Western Flower Thrip.

Always follow the product label instructions and consult local agricultural extension services for guidance tailored to your situation.

  2. I have 50 mtrs of hedges that were looking terrible from a thrip invasion. Since confidor tablets are no longer available in Australia, ( those worked previously, ) I decided to give this a try. Especially since the price is good!

This product is excellent. I will be buying another 10 soon!
It takes a while for your plants to absorb it. Water it in if you don’t get enough rain, like we do in SA. I apply it in spring / summer, when thrips are most active.
The bottle says it will only last 6 weeks. It lasts alot longer than that. And once your plants are healthy again, and the thrip population is heavily reduced, I only need to apply it once a year and it has kept my huge hedges ( 4 mtrs high ) healthy.

Awesome product. Thanks, also, for making it so reasonably priced. I really appreciate it!
