What is the best way to spray tomatoes? Vegemite didn't dissolve properly and clogged my sprayer. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Steve Webber asked on 7 January 2025

Hi Steve, To spray tomatoes effectively and avoid clogging your sprayer, follow these steps:
Use Proper Dilution: If you're using a product like David Grays Fruit Fly Garden Spray, ensure you dilute it according to the instructions. Avoid using thick substances like Vegemite, as they can clog the sprayer.
Strain Mixtures: If you want to use homemade sprays (like garlic or chili sprays), strain them through a fine mesh or cheesecloth to remove any solid particles that could clog your sprayer.
Choose the Right Sprayer: Use a sprayer designed for liquids, preferably with a fine mist setting to ensure even coverage without clogging.
Spray Timing: Apply sprays in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid direct sunlight, which can cause the solution to evaporate quickly and may harm the plants.

What is the “protein” that the instructions say to mix with this spray? The David Grays Maldison for fruit fly control? Julia asked on 13 November 2023

Hey Julia,
There's a few different things you could use as a protein to mix in with David Grays Fruit Fly Garden Spray 200mL, but the easiest (and most Australian way) would be to use some Vegemite! This will allow you to create a paste that you can brush on to the base of the fruit tree that you're trying to protect, lowering the fruit flies lower and away from the fruit, rather than mixing it into a spray! It'll create another way of applying this product to keep your fruit safe and the flies away!
