Eggs are an important staple of any diet, and can be used in so many different ways. You’ve already gave the stores the flick and start farming your own, time to get a place for the eggs. Layer Boxes help prevent them from just being laid anywhere in the yard where the can be lost or accidentally trampled on.
Hens prefer to lay in a safe dark area that is separated from the hustle and bustle of the flock. You want to keep your layer box elevated a few inches which will allow the hen’s privacy. Keeping the box elevated also ensures the other birds won’t be scratching around the eggs or potentially breaking the egg. It is important to note that you keep the Layer Box lower than the lowest roosting poles in the coop. Chickens seek the highest roost to sleep on at night, so if your layer box is higher than your perches, the chickens can sleep or even poop in the box, which can dirty the eggs and potentially make them unsafe for eating.

You won’t require a layer box for every hen, but you don’t want to have too few. Insufficient nesting boxes can increase tension in the flock, and also the likelihood of eggs laid out in the field. Keep the peace among the flock by allowing room for all your hens.
Our nesting boxes come flat packed to keep the postage cost down, basic assembly is required. Simple to put together, all you’ll need is a screw driver (preferably powered)!
