How Does it Work?

Phozguard 620 is readily absorbed by the plant and translocated through the plant’s vascular system to all parts of the plant, ensuring effective disease control.

Directly produces fungi toxins to manage pathogens and enhance the immune system of the plant, which makes it capable of fighting diseases on its own!

Mode of Action

Phosphite, which is a biodegradable fungicide, used for disease invasion and prevention:

  • Phosphites trigger molecular reactions within the plant cell
  • Activates plants’ immune system and defense mechanisms
  • Suppresses spore formation
  • Recognition of disease by plant cell
  • Phosphite encourages defensive molecules, such as phytoalexins, to attack the disease directly.
  • The plant’s self-defense mechanism alerts the rest of the plant to start producing other compounds increasing plant resistance to infection or attack by other pathogens
  • These responses are called systemic required resistance (SAR) and induced resistance (IR)

Is this safe to use on orchids? Colin asked on 10 February 2025

Hey Colin,
AgroBest Phozguard 620 Systemic Fungicide is not specifically labeled for use on orchids. It is primarily used for controlling diseases like Downy Mildew and Phytophthora in crops such as citrus, grapes, and cucurbits. While systemic fungicides can be effective for treating fungal infections in plants, using a product not specifically labeled for orchids may pose risks to the plant.

Carl answered on 11 February 2025 store manager

This should be okay to use on most orchids (excluding those requiring an alkaline pH, such as Cym. canaliculatum) as it is the same active ingredient as Rid-a-Rot, just a higher concentration (Rid-a-Rot is 200g/L). So where you'd use 5 to 10ml of Rid-a-Rot per litre of water, you'd use 1.6 to 3.2mL of Phozguard 620.

does it treat frangipani rust Ella asked on 24 July 2024

Hey Ella,
While not specifically marketed for frangipani rust, the systemic properties of AgroBest Phozguard 620 and its ability to enhance the plant's immune response make it a potentially useful option for treating this disease. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and consider consulting with a local horticulturist for tailored advice

Hi Dave will Phozguard treat Antracnose in Plane Tress Hayley Crossing asked on 18 June 2024

Hey Hayley,
AgroBest Phozguard 620 Systemic Fungicide is a liquid fungicide designed for the prevention and control of various fungal diseases, including Downy Mildew and Phytophthora. It works systemically by being absorbed into the plant's vascular system, providing effective disease control by activating the plant's immune response and suppressing spore formation.

However, the available information does not explicitly state that Phozguard 620 is effective against anthracnose, particularly for plane trees (Platanus spp.), which are commonly affected by the fungus Apiognomonia veneta. Anthracnose in plane trees is typically managed through cultural practices like improving air circulation and sunlight penetration, removing and disposing of infected leaves, and ensuring proper tree health through adequate watering and fertilization.

For chemical control, fungicides specifically labeled for anthracnose, such as those containing thiophanate-methyl, chlorothalonil, or mancozeb, are recommended. Phozguard 620 might help as part of an integrated disease management approach, but it is essential to consult specific product guidelines or a local extension service for confirmation and tailored advice.

I’ve got a canary island palm with a potential case of pink rot - would this, applied to the roots in spring, be a suitable treatment. If so, what quantities would you recommend and how often. I’ve been advised to apply phosphonic acid. Jay asked on 7 May 2024

AgroBest Phozguard 620 Systemic Fungicide is formulated to control Phytophthora species, which include the pathogen causing Pink Rot (Phytophthora erythroseptica). Therefore, it can be effective in managing Pink Rot, especially given its systemic action that allows the fungicide to be absorbed and translocated throughout the plant's vascular system, targeting infected areas comprehensively.

For optimal results, it's essential to follow proper application guidelines, including dilution rates, timing, and ensuring that the plants are dry during application. As with any fungicide, ensure compatibility if mixing with other chemicals and adhere to all safety and usage instructions provided on the product label.

  3. I bought the phosguard 600 for use with my private orchid collection. The directions for use were a little unclear for me as to mixing ratios for folia spraying and possibly drenching the pots with a diluted solution. If you could clarify this I would be grateful. Thanks Richard
